Child and Youth Program

Supporting the next generation through connection, culture, and compassionate care.

Empowering youth with culturally safe mental health support, land-based activities, and school-based counselling — across our northern communities.

Misiway’s Child and Youth Program focused on mental health and addictions counselling for individuals under the age of 19, the program integrates traditional teachings and land-based activities to help build confidence, emotional resilience, and healthy coping strategies. Services are delivered primarily in schools but can also be done at the office or virtually.

The team includes three Child Mental Health and Addictions Counsellors — one of whom also serves as Program Coordinator — as a Psychologist. Care plans may include suicide prevention, anger management, and behaviour modification, with additional support from Child Psychiatrists at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto. Seasonal day camps and participation in community events further support cultural connection and community engagement.
